The Lost Wombat
It was a very warm Sunday in NC but I wanted to get in a good ride. Not enough time to really head up in the high country so I settled on the lower hills (about 1000+ feet in elevation). It was a bit cooler but still very hot.
There were a number of places around Wilkesboro that I wanted to try out and since it was Sunday, that limited what establishments were open. I decided on giving The Lost Wombat a try.
This place has Australian type meals (such as the Aussie Burger). Since I lived in Australia for 2 years, I decided to give the place a go. After riding around for 2 hours, I stopped in but stayed in the outside area (I was already hot and sweaty). It was actually quite nice under the awning with a breeze.
I ordered a PBR to quench my thirst.
The first thing I noticed was that the beer prices were very good. $2 for a 16oz PBR. Not bad. As I drank my beer (and my large glass of water not pictured), I opted for the Aussie burger. This is a cheese and bacon burger with pickled beets, pineapple, fried eggs, and cooked onions. For the side I got tots.
This is just what I needed. I had eaten breakfast but it had been almost 6 hours ago. I ate the whole burger but not the tots (there were enough for at least two people).
The food was very good. The prices were about normal as any other place. The beer was very cold and I did love the chilled glass. The price was great too. I also was surprised by the service. Excellent. I will definitely be coming back if hungry and in the area.
