Route 66 - Day 24
This is my FINAL day of the trip. I will reach my house this afternoon and what a ride it has been.
The Crossville KOA was the nicest so far. So quiet. Slept like a baby. I was not in a rush since Knoxville was only an hour away and I wanted to miss rush hour. I left about 9:30.
Traffic was not bad at all. I have two cities to drive thru, Knoxville and Ashville. I also have that really nice stretch of I-40 between Knoxville and Ashville. The day was cool to start and might reach low 80s. Perfect day to ride.
The ride was uneventful. A lot of big trucks but overall traffic was light. I opted to stay on I-40 and skip I-77. I wanted to get on 601 and go south. I-77 always seems to have traffic problems and since I would be getting home at rush hour, better to skip all the interstates close to home.
I arrived in Salisbury about 4:30 and decided to drop in at The Friendly Pub. Had a beer and then headed home. It was nice to finally be back. I said all my hellos to everyone and then unpacked the bike. I travelled light so it did not take long. The big thing was to wash my clothes as they kind of smelled a bit. I also took a much needed shower.
My bike is a mess (bugs, dirt, etc) and it is due for maintenance. I will admit, other than the small issue on day 1, the bike ran flawless. I am so thankful for that. Nothing worse than a breakdown to make a trip suck.
The total miles I traveled was 6,276 miles. It all took place over 24 days. The most miles driven in one day, 474. The least was 174. The average was around 261.
Would I do this again? Yup. 2026 is the 100 year anniversary. We will see.
Total miles today? 343
