Route 66 - Day 23
One nice thing about the Memphis KOA is they have a cafe. I woke up and began getting things together. The café does not open until 7am. Once it hit 7, I walked over and got an egg mcmuffin of sorts and coffee. Cooked fresh on the spot. Delicious. I thought about getting another but held off.
I was not in any hurry and did not need to worry about traffic since it is Sunday. I got cleaned up and packed up and left the campground about 9:30am. The weather was not nearly as warm as the past few days. And there was not any wind to speak of. It was just I-40, again.
Going through Memphis was easy but tricky as well. I am glad it was Sunday. Once through Memphis, the traffic was light at times but because it was starting to get hillier, the trucks had a tendency to bunch up. Just took my time and got through all of them when that occurred.
I stopped for gas and got a meat stick/cheese pack again. They taste good and seem to last a while before you get hungry again. It was back on the road headed to Nashville. Again, since it is Sunday, the traffic was lighter than usual.
The roads here are tricky as well. Left turn here, right turn there, merge, etc. Again, just took my time and got through it all. Now with all the big cities behind me, its just interstate to the campground.
I got off the highway and still had 5 mile to go. It seems that this KOA is pretty far from the interstate compared to others. Not complaining as it is gorgeous here. If you are near Knoxville, try the Crossville KOA. It is really between Nashville and Knoxville.
Unlike most campgrounds, you are not "crammed" in. Everything is really spread out which makes it even more private. What an excellent choice. Tonight will be my last night out before I get home.
As I have said many times, what a trip this has been. Cannot wait for my next adventure.
