Route 66 - Day 19
We woke up in our TeePee to bright sunny skies and cool temperatures (50). It will warm up very quickly. Today our destination is Albuquerque. We will be staying in a cabin at the KOA near there. Figure we would give them a try. Has to be quieter than a tent. LOL...
We have no plans except to ride. We will try to stick to Route 66 but in AZ, it is mostly interstate anyway. We took a break a the NM Welcome Center. After that, we had a lot more options for 66. We took them all since for Kirk, this is his last hurrah as he goes north to Colorado.
Even though we did these roads, it is different. You see it backwards so unless you looked in your rear view mirror, we missed some things. I was fun riding these roads and the small towns. We ended up stopping in Grants for a small lunch and a beer.
After that, we got back on 66 as much as we could then as we got closer to Albuquerque, we hopped on I-40 in hopes to miss rush hour. We got lucky today. two times there were issues on the interstate where traffic was backed up for miles. The last one was in the city.
We ended up getting to the Albuquerque KOA at 4pm. Gives us time to unpack and relax before making dinner. Another scenic day is down in the books.
Tomorrow we split off. I head to Elk City, OK (final destination NC) while Kirk goes to see friends and family in Colorado then Kansas City and then KY (I think). The trip together will end but I will still have few more days to ride through scenic country side.
Total miles today? 247
