Riding in Panama City Beach
The ride down here was actually quite a lot of fun. We took nothing but back roads and road about 250-300 miles/day (it took us 2 days). The weather coming down was quite nice (cloudy) and the scenery was fantastic. We both love riding back roads! There is so much Americana to see when driving through the small towns and fields. I love all the old buildings, cars, etc you see along the way.
Once we arrived in PCB, we actually did not ride our motorcycles very much. We arrived on a Saturday evening and did not ride again until the following Friday. Why? We were having fun just hanging out at PCB! Our bikes had a great home while we were hear and we have access to a golf cart. My brother lives in PCB and while staying at his beach house, there was a lot to do (especially enjoying the weather and the beach).
We did venture out quite a bit. Mainly to some of the local places for food and beverages.
So even if we did not get on our bikes and ride a lot, we were always out and about in the afternoons trying to take advantage of all PCB has to offer. Once we did get out on our ONE one trail ride, lets just say:
Sand, Sand, and more Sand
We found some places to ride and it turns out that many are private drives or gated.
We did find other roads that were open to the public. We need a LOT of practice riding in sand as it was unlike anything we had done before. Both of us are relatively new to riding and neither of us have encountered this type of deep sand before. It was challenging and difficult. After reading more about riding in sand, I think more practice with better technique would allow us to get very comfortable in these scenarios. It was quite educational driving in the sand and both of us really want to try again to master this terrain.
The ride back was just a reverse of our route. The only real difference was we missed one turn and were given an alternative road to get back on track. We were surprised to find a dirt road which quickly turned to thick and very slick mud. We stayed vertical but had not encountered this type of mud for almost 1/2 mile. What an education.
We cannot wait to return to PCB. We would do it all over again since the drive down was a blast. Traffic was minimal. And the roads were all in very good shape. We surprised by the number of 4 lane roads we encountered. Many in the middle of no where (but who is complaining).
So hopefully we will get in another ride down there this year!
