Keep yourself dry with RainFly

So why write about a tarp? I come from a backpacking background and one of the most useful items I carried was a tarp. Why? Bad weather. I cannot tell you how many trips I backpacked where the weather turned foul. A simple tarp made a miserable trip quite bearable. It gave me a dry oasis where I could cook, sit, and dry my clothes.

It may not seem like much but a tarp is quite versatile. The number one use is to keep you dry. It is miserable camping and being stuck in your tent. A simple lightweight tarp allows you to get out and enjoy the outdoors (even if it is wet). Also, in those conditions where it is extremely windy and cold, it can be used as a wind break. I could go on and on about how you can use a tarp but in the end, it is used to keep things dry.

The Rain Fly by NoCry was one of the best deals we found for a tarp. It is quite large and include stakes and tie downs. We found the center line to be too short. Go get some paracord and create your own. Also, the tie downs are good but the rope tensioners are not that strong. Look on amazon and you can find many different types that are more versatile (I personally think that plastic tensioners allow the guylines to slip).

We used the tarps on one of our camping trips. One tarp was used to cover our clothes that we hung up (so they could dry). The other tarp was used to cover the picnic table where we were cooking. Luckily the rain held off and we did not need the tarp but it did allow us to figure out what we liked and what we did not.

Overall this tarp is a great deal for the money. It seems to be sturdy but time will tell. All I can say is that you should definitely carry one just in case of bad weather.
