Olicamp Stove

Olicamp Stove
Olicamp Electron Stove

When I first saw the Olicamp Electron Stove, I really like the compact size, the flame adjuster, and the built in ignitor. I have taken this stove on 3 camping trips. It comes with a plastic case but it makes the stove a bit bulkier and I like to store my stove in my cooking set. To make room, I ditched the plastic box.

I have ALWAYS used a MSR stove backpacking - the Whisperlite. I have never liked carrying white gas and when these compact stoves began to appear that use the canister gas, I was all in. I do have a huge JetBoil system that I use when I was car camping. It is too bulky for my motorcycle so I needed to get a more compact one. The Olicamp seemed to fit the bill.

The stove works great. The ignitor has not missed a beat and the flame was always good. Now the bad. This last camp trip, I noticed that one of the pot supports sits much lower than the rest. This creates a tilted stove and I almost lost my pot of water on it. I looked at it and cannot figure out HOW it happened other than sitting in the cook pot bouncing around somehow bent it pretty bad. I do not like the design of the pot supporters. After this little fiasco, I decided to go back to MSR and purchased the Pocket Rocket 2 (will review later). Main reason - it is smaller AND the legs fold up neater hopefully avoiding a repeat of this problem.

So, do I just have a faulty stove pot supporter?  Did banging it around in the cookset without its plastic box cause the damage? I really do not know. I just need a stove that can take beating and I do not know that I still have my original MST stove and it works great (but then again, backpacking does not bang things around like a motorcycle can).
