Meadows of Dan, VA

Meadows of Dan, VA

We just completed our second weekend trip. The weather was looking really strange so instead of heading to the western part of the state, we went north into Virginia...specifially Meadows of Dan, VA (next to the Blue Ridge Parkway).

First of all, the weather turned out to be perfect. The trip was a blast. Neither of us had been to the campground (Willville Motorcycle Campground) which turned out to be quite a gem.

The ride up there took us through winding mountain roads and quite a number of elevation gains.  Once we arrived, the hosts were fantastic (if you ever get the chance, make sure you camp here). We found a nice spot next to the brook, unpacked, talked a bit with the hosts, then headed out to the grocery and to hit the roads.

We did not know the area very well so we just did some exploring.  We did manage to find a few roads to try. There was also a huge music festival going on that blocked a few access roads.  Overall we did have nice day in the blue ridge mountains.

We ate dinner then headed over to the fire pit where our hosts built a big fire for all to sit around.  There were quite a few adventure riders...even a couple from Vancouver, BC. We all hoped that the weather on Sunday would be good.

Sunday we took our time packing up.  We rode home with another rider for about 50% of the ride.  We took a detour to Pilot Mountain. Since it was overcast, we could not see much but it was still a nice ride (we recommend the winding road up/down from the peak). The weather cooperated...we only got a few sprinkles and we were able to safely make it back home.  Another 1 night shake out ride completed.
