Lake Norman Loop

Lake Norman Loop
Loop around Lake Norman NC

With such a beautiful Saturday, it seemed a shame to waste it. I have lived here for over 2 decades and not once actually done a ride AROUND Lake Norman. I have been to various places on the lake but never done a loop. With Spring here and nice weather, decided to give it a go.

The plan was to do a loop from my house around the lake and stop off at a nice little dive bar called In The Wind. This was probably the first Saturday where it is getting into the 80s which means there will most likely be a lot of lake traffic. The ride takes us through two "bigger" towns, Mooresville and Huntersville. Yea, there was traffic in these places but once you got away, the ride was nice. There was still some traffic but bearable.

The ride around the lake was actually very nice. I think I am going to do this loop again but in the winter. No lake traffic. Not that the traffic was bad - it was just hindering. We would get behind a car in a 45mph road and they would go 30mph. And this loop does have a few nice twisties but could not enjoy them going so slow.

The scenery was nice. You do not see the water ALL the time but enough to know that you are near the lake. I thought the ride was soothing (except in the larger towns). I may try to alter this route to cut out going through these larger towns but first I want to try it off season.

I was glad I went. It is only a 80 mile loop from my house but took quite a long time to complete (about 2.5 hrs). It was still worth it. I never feel that any time riding on my bike is a waste of time. Does not matter if it is traffic or weather...beats doing it in a car.
