Klim Carlsbad Jacket

Klim Carlsbad Jacket

Yes, we know. Klim is expensive and this jacket is one of their high end ones to boot. Before we get started, Klim is noted for safety and that is our #1 priority and concern. Feel free to read all stats, construction, etc about this jacket on the Klim website.

But we want to talk about why we like this jacket. First, a lot of storage. I think we keep finding a new pocket each week (ok, that is an exaggeration). There is a pocket for everything. One nice safety feature is the Stat Card pocket (many folks also call this the hidden credit card pocket). So what is a Stat Card. When you buy a jacket AND register it on the Klim site, it will ask you basic personal information about you and who to contact. It also needs your blood type. You will be sent a plastic card with all this information and you should store it in the hidden pocket. This pocket has a big asterisk above it. Most medical personnel recognize this and can quickly get your information from that card. Its a very nice safety feature and yes, it can also store a credit card.

Once of the best features of this jacket is that it VERY comfortable. It is heavy. I have been wearing my for many months now and do not really notice the weight. It is that comfortable. Also, they run big. Mine is a L and I always wear an XL.

The ventilation is also excellent. I am not sure how many vents they have but it will keep the air moving. This is not a summer jacket by any means but I have been wearing mine all summer (I think next year I will purchase the Induction jacket for the warm/hot weather). Even in the heat, it vents very well attempting to keep you cooler.

The jacket will also keep you warm in cooler weather. For example, it was 56 degrees and all I had on was a t-shirt underneath. At 60 mph, I zipped the front zipper up and two on the sleeve vents. I left all the other vents open and did not get cold. It will be quite interesting trying this out when it is much cooler.

As for being waterproof, I will admit that I have not worn this jacket in a complete downpour. I have gotten caught in some rain but nothing severe for a prolonger period of time. Based on what I have read and seen with my short rain storms, it should keep you dry. I am counting on that.

Overall, this is one great adventure bike jacket. Although it was pricey, I have never regretted purchasing it. Keep in mind the Klim guarantee as well (any accident in the first 5 years, full replacement). Hopefully I will never have to use it. They also are very good about defective items (yes, we have already had to use this for a pair of gloves). Great service.

Other than the price, I really do not have any negative things to say about the jacket. I this particular instance, you get what you pay for.
