January Ride to Lake Wateree
Another nice Sunday and a group got to together for afternoon ride. We met at 11:30 at the Exxon station before heading out.
We introduced everyone and headed out for SC. We did not get 3/4 mile down the road and we had to stop as we lost a rider. We pulled over at another gas station while one rider went back to look for him.
What really happened is his helmet strap popped off and almost lost his helmet. He was able to fix it quickly and found us at the gas station. So once again, we were ready to head over to SC.
The first stop on our trek was to Joe's house. I did not know Joe but many in the group did. He owned a local bar and seemed like a very well liked person. At this house, we got under the big oak and had a toast in his memory.
After a nice toast, we were heading out again but to the Handle Bar. This is a small local joint that many in the group have frequented on occasion. I personally have never been there.
After a quick stop, we were back on the road again. The end goal is to arrive at Beavers Den in Liberty Hill, SC for lunch. On the way, we had to make two more stops.
The first stop was a Kodak picture moment on the shores of Lake Wateree.
We took some group photos and then headed back out once again. The last stop before the restaurant was at the bridge overlooking Fishing Creek Reservoir. We pulled off on the bridge to take some group photos.
With all the pictures taken care of, it is off the to Beaver Den for lunch. This restaurant in on the lake as well and is quite a nice venue. In the summer that host bands, etc. The food was good. You must try the hamburger. I think it is called the Big D (it is the one with bacon and peanut butter). Everyone seemed to love it.
After eating, some went directly home (it was getting late) and other decided to meet up at the Thirsty Beaver. Overall it is was a fantastic ride and a beautiful winter day. Cannot wait to get out riding once again.
