Handlebar Guards for Explorer

Handlebar Guards for Explorer
Hepco and Becker handle bar protectors

No, this is not a duplicate post but a brand new install for the Hepco and Becker handlebar guards for my new Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer. I love these guards. They can take a hit (believe me, my Tiger 900 tested that out many times over). They also look great but more importantly, they mount on the handlebar ends AND the the handlebar stem (not ON the handlebars themselves).

Installation is very straight forward. Here is what the bike looks like completely stock.

The Tiger comes with the plastic hand guards but that is about it. Once I got my order, I opened it up and laid out all the parts.

As you can see, not much to it. The first step is to remove the handlebar end bolt.

Remove handlebar end bolt.

You will NOT be reusing the bolt or silver cap. Also notice the orientation of the weight. The skinny end points outward. The next step is to remove the handlebar stem bolts. ONLY remove two at a time so the handlebar stays in place. Once the bolts are removed, put in the spacers. You can see how the handlebar guard will sit on these.

Insert the new bolt into the handlebar end and lightly tighten (remember NOT to use the silver cap). This will help hold the guard in place while you mount to the handlebar stem. Add the washer to the new stem bolt and insert into the handlebar guard mount, thru the spacer and into the handlebar stem. Go ahead and torque these to spec. Make sure you tighten the upper bolt FIRST.

Finally you need to tighten the handlebar end bolt. Move the plastic hand guards to align with the new handlebar guards. Once you have them positioned where you like them, tighten the end bolt to spec.

Once all tightened and installed, your bike should look a bit bolder and much better protected.
