Fancy Gap - Day 5

Fancy Gap - Day 5
My view riding home

Woke up this morning and realized it was a sad day...I had to go home! I got up early and noticed some noise on the roof. No, it could not be rain. The forecast said it was to be clear through the weekend...so much for weather forecasting. Yes, it was rain. I could hear it clearly on the roof. No biggie. I was only going home anyway. I had 3 FANTASTIC days of weather so I am not complaining.

This morning I was not going to make my coffee or breakfast but instead go a short drive the to the Lake View Motel Restaurant. As soon as it was light, I got cleaned up and dressed to head out. The rain was not too bad. I uncovered the bike and headed out for breakfast.

Mountain View Motel Restaurant is a great breakfast stop

When I arrived, I never did see a motel but that is beside the point. I went in and easily found a seat. The staff was friendly and you could tell the place was loaded with locals. I listened to countless conversations about how they used to bend the rules in local racing to the local gossip on relationships. Reminded me of the some of the local places I used to frequent many years ago.

I ordered my stand eggs, sausage, and hash browns with coffee. The meal was quite good and could not believe that the amount of sausage they give you. The portions are huge for the $6.50 price tag. Waffle House is $3 more and half the portion of meat and hash browns. But this is a small town so I get it. Once I finished breakfast, I headed back to pack up.

I had to be out by 11am. I looked at the radar and if I left around 10, I may miss the worst part of the weather. So I packed up slowly and left around 10am. I was staying at the KOA Fancy GAP and cannot tell you how nice the staff and the campground was. I will definitely be coming back.

Well, I did not miss all the weather but maybe the worst parts. It rained on me the entire way home. Not bad but I still got a bit wet. I did change my way home to avoid the twisty turns, etc since I knew it would be wet. No matter on the weather, I wanted to zoom down the mountain on highway 52 again (and I did). After that, it was pretty basic. I did happen upon two road work sites. Why they do this shit during the day is beyond me. I sat for over 10 minutes to find out all they were doing was putting down road reflectors. Ugh.

Just like the start of the trip, I did happen to pass by The Friendly Pub and I just had to stop. I had a beer and then left for home. I finally got home and was greeted anxiously by my dogs and my wife. Now all I need to do is unpack and do the washing. What a great trip.
