Defuniak Springs
Another great day and time to explore. This time I am heading north to Defuniak Springs, FL. This is an interesting town since there is a perfect circle of a lake right in the middle of the city. Great walking path around the lake. The road that circles the lake has quite a number of beautiful historic homes as well. Overall, just a cool place to stop and eat lunch.
The ride itself is pretty easy. From my brothers house, took 98W to 79N to 20W to 331N. But who likes simple. I jumped off these main roads (when possible) and took the back roads. What a nice ride with some really nice twisties thorough forests and shaded runs with very few cars. Unfortunately this area does not have a ton of dirt/gravel roads. One road I took USED to be dirt but has paved recently.
While riding up there, I passed a really cool bar called The Hideout. I made a mental note to make sure and stop on the ride back. My goal was to find the Trackside Bar and Grill. I did find it but it was closed (it opened at 3). I was not going to sit around and wait so I found the Last Stop Brew Vault for a beer. I also stopped and had a quick snack on one of they many picnic tables around the lake. Overall this town was worth ride up here.
When going back, I tried to avoid the same route. Again, found a few really cool roads but again, wanted to make sure I passed that bar I saw earlier since there was a TON of bikes and live music. I did find it and stopped. Talked to another adventure bike rider for over an hour. The band quit playing about 4 so I left shortly thereafter.
The rest of the ride was local highways so nothing exciting EXCEPT for Hwy 79. Stick to the speed limits as there are a TON of police.
